About The Learning Pal
MISSION & VISION
The mission of The Learning Pal (TLP) is to provide students in grades K-5 with the resources and opportunities they need to learn and achieve academic success in a distance learning environment. TLP provides one-to-one and small group support, technological resources and enriching extra-curricular activities that promote positive youth development. The Learning Pal model builds strong connections between schools and families by bridging the gap between the school day, instructional hours and out-of-school time.

ABOUT OUR PALS
Our team of trained Learning Pals are students currently enrolled in accredited college/university programs. All pals are required to undergo a thorough criminal background check that includes a drug screening, criminal history check, reference checks, and confirmation of educational background prior to working with families. They participate in an intensive on-boarding training led by certified elementary school educators to equip them to support students with various learning styles.
Learning Pals provide in-person, one-to-one and small group support and extra-curricular activities to students in the comfort of their homes with strict COVID-19, social distancing practices in place. More than just academic support, Learning Pals are mentors. They are trained in the Developmental Relationships Framework, an evidence-based model developed by the Search Institute. Through this framework Learning Pals are equipped with the skills and knowledge to build developmental relationships that support the whole child.
The Learning Pal team monitors the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak daily. The health and safety of each student, their families, and our Learning Pals is our top priority. To foster the safest environment possible we adhere to a comprehensive Infection Prevention Program that follows the highest standards of prevention practices recommended by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The Learning Pal staff is provided gloves, hand sanitizer, hand soap, and disinfectant wipes to clean and disinfect surfaces and items that are frequently touched (such as tables, chairs, doorknobs, handrails, shared electronic equipment, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks). It is The Learning Pal's policy that staff use these supplies when providing in-home services to students and families.
The Learning Pal will contact families prior to providing in-home services to assess if the student or anyone in the household has a fever or other COVID-19 related symptoms.
The Learning Pal is equipped with advanced technology and an excellent performance No-Touch Thermometer that provides instant and reliable accurate body temperature readings. We provide families with temperature results of our Learning Pals prior to the Pal's arrival to the home. Each family member is also expected to provide The Learning Pal with a temperature reading at the time of the visit prior to engagement.
The Learning Pal will also wash their hands in front of student and family and wear N95 masks to reduce infections and to make families more comfortable about their precautions.
Because up to 80% of people who test positive for COVID-19 have complaints of smell or taste loss, all Learning Pals, students and families are required to undergo a loss of smell test which consists of scratch and sniff cards.
Prior to a Learning Pal visiting the home, we also ask that parents/families clean and disinfect surfaces and items frequently touched. These include: tables, chairs, doorknobs, light switches, elevator buttons, handrails, counter tops, remote controls, shared electronic equipment, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks.
